Therapy & Interventions

At Caloundra Psychological Services we focus on evidence based therapy which has been thoroughly evaluated by research.  This maximises the chance of assisting clients and minimises the risk of harm as these interventions have been shown to be effective.

The 2010 Evidence Based Psychological Interventions Review (Evidence-based psychological interventions: A literature review, APS 2010) identified Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) as having the highest standard (Level 1) for treatment of a number of mental disorders including:

Depression:
Generalised Anxiety
Panic Disorder
Specific Phobia
Social Anxiety Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Bulimia Nervosa
Sleep Disorders

Other therapies that have also been shown to be effective and may be integrated in therapy include:

Behaviour therapy                                                                                                            Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT)
Family therapy and family-based interventions
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT)
Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)
Schema-focused therapy
Psycho-education                                                                                                        Neurofeedback therapy (neurotherapy or NFT)
